How often should you change your oil?

One of the most important things you can do to keep your vehicle's engine running in top shape is to change or oil and oil filter frequently.

Oil Changes

Engine oil has many uses. Firstly, it reduces wear and tear on your engine's moving parts. It also helps cool the major components during regular use.

Your Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, or Ram is likely to contain different engine types, so be sure to consult your owners manual for recommended maintenance.

Ensure that oil is changed regularly, even if you don't drive a lot. Oil that has been in your car for too long is loaded with contaminants like carbon and other metals. If you leave these contaminants there, they can slowly damage your engine and result in expensive repairs.

We also recommend that you consider more frequent oil change intervals if any of the following describe your driving style or conditions.

  • Lots of stop-and-go driving
  • Day or night temperatures drop below 0c
  • Lots of engine idling
  • Driving in dusty conditions
  • Lots of short trips (less than 15 km)
  • Lots of driving is at high speeds during weather over 32c
  • Towing a trailer or boat
  • Commercial driving

Most drivers in the Regina, Weyburn, Whitewood, Grenfell, and Indian Head areas are likely to come across these circumstances in their regular commute.

Oil Filters

As its name suggests, an oil filter removes debris and contaminants from your vehicle's oil. It is critical to change your oil filter with each oil change.

Indian Head Chrysler uses high-performance Mopar oil filters that feature internally lubricated seal gaskets, anti-drain back valves, and adhesive-filled double lock seams. You get maximum dirt filtration for all your Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, and RAM vehicles. As always, consult your owner's manual for more specific details about your vehicle's oil and oil filter.
